Meet the Community Council and P&F Committee
School Governance
‘The primary right of parents to educate their children must be upheld in all forms of collaboration between parents, teachers and school authorities, and particularly in forms of participation designed to give citizens a voice in the functioning of schools and in the formulation and implementation of educational policies.’ Pontifical Council on the Family, CHARTER OF THE RIGHTS OF THE FAMILY
The Governance structure of a school, in accordance with the authority entrusted to it by the Archbishop, is to assist the school to fulfil its mission in accordance with the Code of Canon Law, Archdiocesan directives and guidelines and policies of the Catholic Education Commission and the Catholic Education Office.
School Boards and School Community Councils provide the opportunity for members of the school, Parish and Archdiocesan communities to support the mission of Catholic education in the school. Working with the Principal, Parish Priest and staff, the members of the Council or the Board and its committees provide leadership to the wider school community.
The Merici College Community Council performs a dual role: Governance of the College, as well as the Parents & Friends Association of Merici.
Please do not hesitate to contact our Council Chair, Anne-Marie Cooper on email (ros.parisi@merici.act.edu.au) if you have any matters you would like discussed.
